Scurvy Dog is a high-potency vitamin C serum, elevated with a blend of stabilizing antioxidants like vitamin E, ferulic acid, and unique caffeine crystals.

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) stands as the star of skincare antioxidants, known for its prowess in lightening dark spots, boosting collagen, and shielding skin from pollution and UV damage. Scurvy Dog also features glycyrrhetinic acid from licorice for added anti-inflammatory and brightening effects. Ascorbic acid creates a potent antioxidant reserve with a half-life of 4 days once it gets into your dermis, combating free radicals from various environmental stressors. To maintain its effectiveness, regular application is key.

Scurvy Dog requires a bit of acclimation, with its pH under 3.5 to ensure vitamin C penetrates the dermis effectively. Initially, you might experience a tingling sensation when first applying.

Upon application, Scurvy Dog leaves the skin slightly tacky as it absorbs. Once your skin feels dry and smooth, the treatment has fully penetrated, readying you for the next skincare step. Be cautious not to advance too quickly, as doing so might raise your skin's pH above 3.5, hindering further vitamin C absorption.

Deinonized Water, Ascorbic Acid, Ethanol, Lactobacillus Ferment, Sodium PCA, Bisabolol, Polyglutamic Acid, D-Alpha Tocopherol, Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Shea Oil, Magnolia Absolute, Ferulic Acid, Blue Butterfly Pea Flower Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Yarrow Oil, Sargassum Seaweed Extract, Peppermint Oil, Pentylene Glycol

Fades Sun Damage

Scurvy Dog Vitamin C Serum effectively addresses sun damage. Its active ingredient, Ascorbic Acid, inhibits the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin production. This action reduces excess melanin, preventing hyperpigmentation and lightening dark spots caused by sun exposure.

Builds Collagen

The serum's Ascorbic Acid content also plays a crucial role in collagen synthesis. By stimulating fibroblasts in the dermis, responsible for collagen production, Scurvy Dog enhances the skin's firmness and elasticity, contributing to a more youthful appearance.

Protects

As one of the most potent antioxidants in skincare, Ascorbic Acid in Scurvy Dog offers robust protection against environmental aggressors. It neutralizes free radicals from UV rays, pollution, and smoke, safeguarding the skin's health and preventing premature aging.

Ascorbic Acid

High doses of topical Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) are acclaimed for their ability to boost collagen production, brighten the complexion, even skin tone, and fend off photoaging by neutralizing free radicals. This potent antioxidant also aids in skin repair and may reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles, promoting a more youthful and radiant skin tone.

N-Acetyl Phytoshpingosine

N-Acetyl Phytosphingosine is a synthetic ceramide, a class of lipid molecules that occur naturally in the skin and are vital for maintaining the skin's barrier function and retaining moisture. It's a variant of phytosphingosine, which is a natural component of skin ceramides. This particular compound has been acetylated, meaning it has an acetyl group added, to enhance its stability and function in skin-care formulations.

Glycyrrhetinic Acid

Derived from licorice root, Glycyrrhetinic Acid is primarily celebrated for its anti-inflammatory properties, effectively soothing skin irritation and redness, making it particularly ideal for sensitive or inflamed skin conditions. It also plays a crucial role in skin brightening and reducing hyperpigmentation and dark spots by inhibiting an enzyme that stimulates melanin production. Furthermore, Glycyrrhetinic Acid boasts antioxidant properties, aiding in protecting the skin from environmental stressors, building collagen and preventing signs of aging.

My new go-to Vitamin C

So many pricey vitamin c products on the skincare market to choose from. So far I’m liking Surreal Skincares a lot and appreciate the label saying to use it while it’s at peak freshness (nudges me to use it every day and get results rather than letting it sit on my counter). also the bottle has been a funny conversation starter — someone asked why my vitamin c had a dog and the word “scurvy” on it… lol no idea but always appreciate Morgan’s artwork and the creativity on all the Surreal Skincare product labels. big YES to fun, playful, vibrant, creative and *effective* skincare experiences.
